Becoming a New Student – FAQs
 

Q: Who can attend your classes?

A: Our classes are open to all adults in the community. Whether you're a beginner or looking to improve your English skills, we welcome you!

 

Q: How much do the classes cost?

A: All our classes and tutoring services are completely free for students.

 

Q: How do I enroll in a class?

A: To enroll, you can complete our online student application, email, call, or visit our office. We can help you get started!

 

Q: What instruction do you offer?

A: We offer classes in Reading, Writing, Math, English language, Civics & Citizenship, Computer Skills, and Individual Projects like GED, HSED, Citizenship and Driver’s test, and more.

 

Q: What if I have a busy schedule?

A: We understand. Our classes are flexible, so we do our best to design a schedule that works for you.

 

Q: Can I take more than one class at a time?

A: Yes! You are welcome to enroll in multiple classes.

 

Q: What materials do I need for class?

A: We provide most materials, including pens/pencils and notebooks to students who need them, but you may be asked to bring basic supplies like notebooks or pens. Some students bring laptop computers.

 

Q: Are the classes in-person or online?

A: Most classes are in-person at our Appleton, Wis., location, but classes are also available throughout Outagamie, Waupaca, northern Winnebago, and northern Calumet counties, as well as online.

 

Q: What can I expect from taking your classes?

A: Improving your skills can open new opportunities for employment, civic engagement, and personal growth. Our inclusive and supportive staff and tutors will help you to achieve your goals.

Becoming a Donor – FAQs
 

Q: How can I support Fox Valley Literacy?

A: You can support Fox Valley Literacy by volunteering your time as a tutor, board member, office support and more! You can make an impact by donating funds, contributing in-kind resources, or making connections to available and relevant resources within your organization and community circles. Every bit of support helps provide free educational services. 

 

Q: What types of donations do you accept? 

A: Monetary donations, as well as supplies, educational materials, and services that can enhance classes and programs are appreciated.

 

Q: How do I make a monetary donation? 

A: Monetary donations can be made through the Fox Valley Literacy website by filling out the form on our Donate page or by visiting our office at 130 E. Franklin St., Appleton, WI. Any amount is greatly appreciated. 

Q: Is my donation tax-deductible?

A: Fox Valley Literacy is an independent, registered 501c3 nonprofit organization, therefore your donations may be tax-deductible. We provide a receipt for your records, and your tax advisor can advise you on deductions. 

 

Q: How does my contribution make a difference?

A: Your support enables us to provide free classes and tutoring for adult learners, helping improve literacy for all and building a stronger community. Every donation directly funds program costs and material resources. 

Q: Can I sponsor a specific program or class?

A: Absolutely! If you’re interested in sponsoring a specific program or class, please contact our office to discuss how your support can have a direct impact.

 

Q: Do you host fundraising events?

A: Yes, the Faces of Literacy celebration is an annual fundraising event each spring. We encourage all community members to participate and help spread the word! 

 

Q: Can I volunteer in addition to donating? 

A: Definitely! We welcome community supporters to get involved both as donors and volunteers. Donating time and resources makes a significant impact. 

 

Q: How can I stay updated on your activities and impact?

A: Sign up for the newsletter on the website for program updates, success stories, and upcoming events. 

 

Q: How can I help raise awareness for Fox Valley Literacy

A: Sharing the Fox Valley Literacy mission with your friends, family, and social networks is a great way to raise awareness. Follow the Fox Valley Literacy page on social media and share important updates.
